Adi Guru Shankaracharya attained enlightenment here is a cave and established I math named Jyotimath which now is Joshimath. Among the many temples of Joshimath, the most famous are Narsing and Durga Devi temple. At Sri Badrinath, Vishnu is worshipped as Narsing, an incamation of Vishnu, Lord Badrinathji worshipped in the Narsingh temple during the winter months when Sri Kedarnath temple remains closed.
